Jay Reddy Prakash, M.D., FACG

Jay Reddy Prakash, MD, is the founder of Southern Gastroenterology Specialists, PC. He established the practice in July 1984, beginning in Riverdale and with an office in Stockbridge, with the goal of bringing advanced and compassionate gastrointestinal care to the South Atlanta community. 


Dr. Prakash received his medical education at Stanley Medical College in Chennai, India, where he completed his M.B.B.S. and M.D. degrees with Honors. He moved to the United States in 1976 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine in the Bronx, New York, from 1976 to 1979. After practicing Internal Medicine from 1979 to 1982, he completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1982 to 1984. 


In 1984, Dr. Prakash introduced several advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures to the Southern Atlanta area for the first time, including endoscopic gastrostomy, endoscopic sphincterotomy with stent placement and stone extraction, and sclerotherapy. His clinical leadership includes serving as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at both Southern Regional Medical Center and Henry Medical Center, as well as holding numerous leadership roles on quality assurance, credentials, and other hospital committees. 


Dr. Prakash also served for many years as a hospital board member at Southern Regional Health System and Promina Health System. He has held academic appointments at Morehouse School of Medicine and Mercer University School of Medicine and served as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine. In addition, he founded the accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME) program for physicians at Henry Medical Center and served as its chairman for over ten years. He has also worked as a surveyor for a nationally recognized accreditation program. 



In addition to his medical career, Dr. Prakash has a strong interest in information technology. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, cooking, deep-sea fishing, photography, and filmmaking. He is married and has two sons. Dr. Prakash is now Emeritus, having dedicated decades to advancing patient care, education, and medical leadership. 


Douglas Lowe II, MD

Douglas Lowe II, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and partner physician with Southern Gastroenterology Specialists, PC, where he has been providing care since 2006. 

Dr. Lowe completed his undergraduate education at Morehouse College, graduating Summa Cum Laude with Departmental Honors and earning membership in the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and is a member of the Aesculapian Club. 



He completed his medical internship, residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Medical College of Georgia, where he also served as Chief Medical Resident


Dr. Lowe is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care and is skilled in the clinical practice of gastroenterology, electronic medical records, and clinical research. 


Outside of medicine, Dr. Lowe enjoys reading, exercising, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Srinivasan Ganesan, M.D

Srinivasan Ganesan, M.D

Srinivasan Ganesan, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist with extensive international and academic training. He completed his undergraduate education in India and his postgraduate medical training through the Royal College of Physicians in London, United Kingdom. 


Dr. Ganesan completed his internship, residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Following his training, he served as faculty at the Cleveland Clinic and later as Program Director for Digestive Diseases at West Virginia University. He moved to Atlanta in 2014. 


Dr. Ganesan provides comprehensive gastroenterology care, with special expertise in liver disease and therapeutic endoscopy. Since joining the South Atlanta community in 2014, he has been dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care tailored to each patient’s needs. 


He currently serves as a faculty member at Mercer University School of Medicine. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ganesan enjoys traveling, sports, and spending quality time with his family. He is married and has two children. 


Sateesh R. Prakash, MD, FACP

Dr. Sateesh Prakash is a board-certified gastroenterologist with special interests in hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease. He grew up in Jonesboro, Georgia, and attended Woodward Academy, where he graduated with honors. 



Dr. Prakash earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with honors and his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the University of Louisville. During medical school, he was awarded a scholarship to complete a unique project in photojournalism focused on tropical medicine in India. 


He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, rotating through Tampa General Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, and Moffitt Cancer Center. He then pursued subspecialty training at Cleveland Clinic Florida and completed his gastroenterology fellowship at New York Methodist Hospital, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine. 


During his final year of fellowship, Dr. Prakash served as Chief Fellow and participated on both the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Gastroenterology Program Evaluation Committee. He also co-directed the Brooklyn Hepatology Symposium, highlighting his leadership and academic involvement in liver disease. 


Dr. Prakash is a published author and an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology. He previously served on the ACG Patient Care Committee and was recently elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He serves in the faculty of Medicine at Mercer University School of Medicine. 


Outside of medicine, Dr. Prakash enjoys traveling, watching movies, biking, and exploring new restaurants with his wife, Hima Reddy

Dr. Sateesh Prakash is a gastroenterologist with interest in hepatology and inflammatory bowel disease. He grew up in Jonesboro, GA, and attended school at Woodward Academy in College Park, graduating with honors. He received his Bachelor of Arts (B.A) with honors and Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. During medical school, Dr. Prakash received a scholarship to complete a project relating to photo journalism of tropical medicine in India.

Jennifer Stemberger, NP

Jennifer Stemberger, NP

Ms. Stemberger earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Emory University in 2001. She is board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Nurse Practitioner. Ms. Stemberger has 18 years' experience practicing in the field of gastroenterology.


Kate Barclay, NP

Ms. Kate Barclay earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University in 2021. She is board-certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Ms. Barclay completed her undergrad in Salt Lake City, UT, and worked as both an acute care and gastroenterology registered nurse for five years before becoming a nurse practitioner and moving to Georgia. She also has experience as a health care provider in both hospice and family medicine. Ms. Barclay enjoys spending time with her dog while exercising, hiking, and camping.
